FTP Information
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is simply
transferring files (uploading) to a server,
which then can be retrieved (downloaded) by the
person receiving your job.
FTP’ing your job to Action saves time and money.
Rather than saving your files to a disk and then
mailing them to Action, placing your files on
our FTP server allows Action to receive your job
the same day you send it. In order to FTP, you
will need FTP software. Many easy-to-use
software programs can be downloaded (usually
free) from the internet. Here are a few popular
FTP programs:
Fetch - Mac based FTP - Free Trial version, $25 for full version
CuteFTP - Windows - $40
Transmit2 - Mac OS X
What you need to FTP:
- An FTP Program. (See programs above)
- Space on a remote server. Action has a FTP
site set up for all customer who would like to
FTP their job.
- Compression Software. In order for files to
transfer over FTP correctly, they must first be
compressed. Compression software programs such
as “StuffIt” or “WinZiP” can be found on the
internet and downloaded for free.
How to FTP:
- Install the FTP program.
- Connect to the FTP host. You will need to
enter the host address (ex. ftp.hostname.com),
user name, password, and directory. You can get
this information by contacting your Customer
Service Representative.
- Compress the file.
- Upload the file. Once you get Action’s FTP
information (see #2 above) you will need to
upload your files to Action’s FTP server.
- Email or call your CSR and let her know your
files are now available. It is essential that
you confirm your files are on the FTP site so
Action can begin work on them as quickly as
possible.
